A Major Inconvenience? No!
It has been said that closure of Cornford Lane to through traffic would dramatically affect journey times for some people.
Comparative tests carried out when the lane was closed for several weeks in 2013 show that using the main A264 only adds a few minutes at peak periods to journey times. However meeting just one of the many large vehicles that use Cornford Lane can cause much greater delays, and if encountering one of the frequent gridlocks in the lane, journey times can increase by 30 minutes or more.
It should be noted that the people, numbering over 200, who would be most affected by a no-through road, are residents of the lane plus Pepenbury, their visitors and staff. Whilst they would no longer have the option of being able to use the lane in either direction, and would have to use the same main routes as everyone else, these residents are prepared to sacrifice convenience for safety and the protection of the environment.
